Warning Description: Winter Weather Advisory
Warning Date: 4:00 PM EST on January 16, 2012
WarningSum:...Winter Weather Advisory In Effect From 11 Pm This Evening To
9 Am Est Tuesday...
Warning Message:The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for a wintry mix...which is in effect from 11 PM
this evening to 9 am EST Tuesday.
* Locations...south central Massachusetts...northwest Rhode Island
and portions of northeast Connecticut.
* Hazard types...snow late tonight into the overnight hours followed
by the potential for pockets of freezing drizzle and sleet early
Tuesday morning.
* Accumulations...snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches with a low
probability of isolated 3 inch amounts. A trace of ice
accumulation is also possible.
* Timing...snow will overspread the region during the late evening
hours. It may briefly fall at a moderate to heavy clip. The snow
should come to an end by early Tuesday morning...but some left
over pockets of freezing drizzle and sleet are possible through
early Tuesday morning.
* Impacts...untreated roadways will likely become snow covered and
slippery overnight. These roads may remain slippery for part of
the early morning rush hour. Temperatures should rise above
freezing by mid morning.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Weather Advisory is issued when snow and/or ice is
forecast to develop in the affected areas...but accumulations are
expected to be light. Any snow or ice would make driving and
walking difficult...but not impossible...on untreated roadways
and sidewalks. When temperatures are below freezing...motorists
need to be especially careful on bridges and overpasses where
slippery spots can easily develop.
